Just because we don't play kid's music at BLD, doesn't mean we don't like it. As a matter of fact, I'm always on the hunt for great stuff to play for my led zeppelin loving kids. So I was really jazzed to discover local musician Debbie Cavalier and her group, Debbie and Friends. A professional musician for 20+ yrs, Debbie has performed with the creme de la creme of kid's music. Everyone from Shari Lewis to Sesame Street and Buffalo Bob. Her music has a groovy kid of 70's vibe, (think free to be you and me era) and she incorporate stories within her songs. You can see her live throughout the Boston area. Check here site for concert listings.

I love the idea of taking my son to the theaters, but even the best kid's films seem to have some sort of scary parts. That's when I hear, "mama I wanna go" and I start to get annoyed with how much cash I just shelled out for a twenty minute movie stay. How great would it be to have a major theater play your child's favorite shows on the big screen? Patriot Place's Showtime Cinemas (as well as throughout the country) now has that exact thing. Plus it's hella cheap. $3.50 a ticket, your kid can run around if they get antsy, and no one will shush them either. Check out Bob the Builder in February and other great shows through out the year. To find out more, go here Consider joining the popcorn club too. Lots of discounts, free munchies and birthday hook ups.

So if have yet to join a gym and hate the thought of walking around in work out gear with a bunch of guys watching your every move, I would highly suggest considering HEALTHWORKS.  This not just your run of the mill "women's only gym".  It's much more than that.  Top of the line equipment, & locations, amazing babysitting (where they will actually change a diaper and give a bottle), over 500 classes including all types of dance, yoga, post and prenatal fitness, core strength conditioning and the list goes on.  But the best feature is their full day spa and amazing locker rooms.  This is the ONLY gym in Boston if you ask me.

Even though winter is here, I thought it would be fun to have something to look forward to.  The Mass Horticultural Society brings us WEEZIES GARDEN.  It's a great way to get kids into everything gardening and there are classes held in the spring and summer months.  Many small spiraling paths and large scale things to climb on.  I can't wait to get my kids in there! or check out Julie Moirmesservy's website.  This is her vision and design.

if you are like me and the thought of sitting through one more Nutcracker ballet makes your toes curl, check this out.  Ballet Rox is a non profit dance company, here in Boston (Jamaica Plains to be exact) that brings the Nutcracker experience to new heights by combining a variety of  dance that celebrates cultural diversity, fusing classical ballet with tap, hip-hop and a variety of dance styles including flamenco and international folk dance.  For tickets and more information about Ballet Rox click here to see a great clip from a documentary about this amazing company check this out!

Edaville is a bit of a haul but a magical place for kids.  In the summer you can take your kids on a real train that IS Thomas the Tank engine, in the fall, check out the cranberry bogs, and of course in the winter go for the festival of lights, which are around until January 7th.  All the rides are scaled down for kids and there's even a fishing hole where my son actually caught a fish with a real "stick" fishing pole that the staff baited for him

the boston globe came to visit us at bld boston last month and sent us tons of postcards. click here for a tour through the best little disco in boston.

read your diary and tell us about your pre-kids lifestyle.  i seriously doubt that there's one person in new england that knew this dirty little secret about your BLD boston host kristen.  ya see, way back before she was momma to two gorgeous boys and wife to one trophy husband she was......mc sweet and low - the diva of the dance floor and high times poster child (ummmmm, she did inhale!).  click here to see her cover shot all big like and make sure to ask her to free style next time ya see her!

heard 'round the disco: "my kids love little sprouts". upon further investigation i found out that it wasn't vegetables and was blown away by the boston area's best kept secret: Little Sprouts specializes in preparing your child to enter formal school ready to learn. experience their commitment to quality early education and care which has twice earned them the title of Center of Excellence and $5M from the U.S. department of Education’s Early Reading First Grant. kids discover the love of learning thanx to little sprouts' experienced, loving staff and engaging, enriching and scientifically based curriculum. check em out here www.littlesprouts.com

cool place for the kids to hang that doesn't stink of chuckies cheese? dig on imajine that a family and child interactive playspace where human potential has no boundaries. the unique 12,000 square foot playspace offers an environment where families can create and learn together in a safe and educational way which includes a child sized grocery store, pirate ship, infant exploration station, imajinators creative station, Puff the Magic Dragon bouncy house, and a prehistoric activity zone, just to name a few! check 'em out here www.imajinethat.com!

TT Buds is a locally made boston popcorn company. They have the most amazing salty and sweet or cheesy sweet corn. These guys met working at Fenway park and have been friends ever since. No artifical anything. I'm hoping to get them to donate samples to a few parties. (I'm sure they will cause Rob went to school with one of them)

marie falco comes to us from a variety of spas and will be hooking up all BLD parent guests with facial waxing. She is also available to do make up for weddings and other functions. I met her while shooting a wedding and believe me, she is top notch. You can contact her directly here OR she is also a full on ethestian at the Green Tangerine in Burlington.

When I moved to Boston a few months ago, I had no idea about where to go, what to do or for that matter where the hell to find my local utility companies. So I did a search and up came this great site - Boston Central. Mother of two, Stacey Sao, was in the same boat, after moving to New England from Texas. Where to find, well...anything? So Boston Central was born. Weekly "happenings" newsletters for things to do in and all over Massachusetts for families. But it's more than that. Need to find your local cable company? How about good shopping, restaurants, healthcare services or even resources for child care? Two words. BOSTON CENTRAL!

we met Kristin Chalmers back in the 90s when she was known as MC sweet ‘n low, one of philly’s best rappers and dancers. Oh how time changes things (for the better!). now Kristin lives in boston with her husband and son and runs her own photography studio (she’s great with kids!) and is the proud host (and MC) of bld boston. Below are many of her favorite things to do in boston.

Meghan brennan is a super cool single mom that founded and teaches some of the best mom and baby pilates classes in town. She does water lessons, private lessons and other stuff in and around boston, all with her son as her “fearless helper” in tow. Check her out.

This place saved my butt when my husband was in the hospital. You set up an appointment and you actually build your dinners in the store. Then bring them home and freeze them. Each dinner serves up to 6 people and it's hell-a cheap. check out the site, It saves my friends who have more than one kid and no time to actually prepare a meal, let alone a weeks worth.

don’t be afraid to turn that radio dial to the left, where you will find one of the greatest college radio stations in the land – WERS which hosts the playground every Sunday, playing the best local, national, and international kids artists as well as classic hits, Broadway showtunes, movie and TV show theme songs, and much, much more. Whether you're a kid or a kid at heart, the Playground has just what you are looking for.

my favorite kids bookstore in boston is bare foot books and my favorite toy store is stella bella toys.

Boston Children’s Museum is the place for children and the adults with 3 jam packed floors of intruguing exhibits and activities, there is something for every kid out there.  visitors can scamper up the three-story climb, play on the light-up dance floor, and create their own artwork to name a few things. there are also special events during the year that focus on different cultures, the environment, science, and other great stuff.  It is their mission to encourage imagination, curiosity, questioning, and realism. check it out here.
